Depends on how much. If it's $20 or less I might loan it out to someone but my mom always told me never to loan out money because it's hard to get people to pay it back.
My mom told my brother and I: “Don't lend money unless you're prepared to lose it.” Well, I don't have money that I can afford to lose.

If it's a fair reasonable motive then i might do it. But i often had all of my money not available.

Do you have a limit on how much money you would give them?

Probably not. I think people that I'm close to are pretty conscientious so if they're coming to me for money then they must really need it. For instance, my Dad needed money to cover rent because he had to pay a down payment when he switched apartments and he gets a set amount of social security money per month. He was short like $500. I gave it to him not expecting it back but he did return it as soon as he was able.

Sorry, I don't have any. And this is most often the truth...

lol that's my go to answer as well. I was taught as a child to never ask to borrow money or to spend money that I don't have. This being examples: (credit cards, loans that I can't pay back, over drafting, etc)

As others have mentioned, it depends a lot on who asks and why they want it. If it's a small amount, like £10 or £20, I would be happy to lend it to someone. A bit more and the likely answer from me will be no unless it's very close family members (parents, sister).

Depending on my financial situation I would probably ask them how much they needed. If it's a small amount, I would more than likely let them "borrow" it, even though I would probably never get it back. However, if it's a larger amount, they're going to be told no, go get a job. :)
