What are your thoughts?

To have any chance of conquering Taiwan, China might need to transport as many as two million troops across the rough 100 miles of the Taiwan Strait and land them under fire at the island’s 14 potential invasion beaches or 10 major ports.

That’s a lot of people—far, far more than the People’s Liberation Army Navy can haul in its 11 new amphibious ships. To transport the bulk of the invasion force, Beijing almost certainly would take up into naval service thousands of civilian ships.

To that end, the Chinese Communist Party has created a legal and bureaucratic framework for taking over control of commercial shipping. Meanwhile, naval engineers have begun modifying key vessels to make them better assault ships.

As I understand it (could be wrong), there is an defense agreement between the US and Taiwan that will activate if, say, the PRC starts landing on Taiwan's beaches. Though I'm not sure if this is a formal "we definitely got your back" treaty or more of an informal "we got your back, baring any mitigating circumstances" treaty. In any case, there is an expectation that, whatever the circumstances, the US would come to Taiwan's aid in the event of a PRC. If they don't then this would have serious repercussions for other US allies, who would quickly loose faith in any defensive agreements with Washington. Most would Asian countries would probably start pivoting to China. A result that would almost be equivalent to military defeat in a war.

Not seeing the clear picture here, why is China trying to invade them?

At this particular moment, it's because Taiwanese 'separatist factions' are being 'emboldened by US actions' and China wants to show how important and powerful it is. But China has always asserted that Taiwan is part of China, and the Taiwanese have always asserted that they are and should be independent country, and it's a mess.

I would say that no Ally should count on Biden for back up. Biden speaks will say what they want to hear and do something totally different.
