I think that it's awesome that toy manufacturers are creating things and business owners are offering programs to encourage children to learn how to code. There is a local business called "Code Ninja" that I came across a while ago - they offer lessons to children as young as 5 years old. Through play they are able to learn coding fundamentals. I look forward to introducing my daughter to all of this when she's older. I wish this was available while I was growing up. Have you guys ever heard of programs such as this?

Coding is really important and will be part of our lives in 10+ years i think. Also develops logical thinking.

I've heard of Minecraft for Education: Minecraft is one of the most popular games around for kids of all ages - and there is now an Education edition available that helps students learn coding skills! Using the Code Builder, students can work independently or in groups to design and build their own characters and worlds.

Yes from a very early age, as it will help them. But the end of the day you do not want to force them if they aren't interested
I agree 100% My parents have always supported my interests/hobbies but there weren't many programs available when I was a kid. The most exposure I remember as a kid was in school as far as exposure to computers in general and typing class. I don't believe in forcing kids to do anything but I think exposure to different skills and education is important.

Yes! It feels like the closest thing to logical thinking through play was chess. Of course we always had legos but we weren't taught how to build anything we kind of just had to use our imagination. Now you can literally watch YouTube videos and follow step by step how to create something which is amazing for kids in my opinion because they can turn around and apply the principals to making other things.

I've seen other toys coming out as well, it's a great thing to jump start more programmers.
This Christmas, we're giving our daughter an Osmo kit. I hope she loves playing with it as much as we love the concept.

I've never looked at Minecraft myself but I know it's massively popular! My only concern is how many hours kids nowadays sink into the game. I definitely think it's important to limit kids game time but I know that a lot of parents and caregivers feel that they rather have the kids home playing video games than be on the streets getting into trouble. I wish there was more of a balance. If my daughter ever gets into Minecraft I will have to look out for that Education edition!
