How do you tell that a website is a scam?

I usually check them on google, by typing in the address and then review, usually it gets the job done.
If not I check how old the site is and that tells me usually.
Another tip, check where the country of the website is and then see if the grammar is okay. Some scams can be really convincing.

If it wants you to enter sensitive information but does not use a secure connection (indicated by a green lock next to your address bar in many browsers), you definitely should not use it.

That's not particulary the "safest" way to know, that just means that it has the ssl encryptation protocol that anyone can get for free.

Check WHOIS data for the info + registration date. Check archive.org to see if the site has made any recent drastic changes. Check faqs/about/policy pages for stolen content or content that refers to another site. If everything is on sale, that's a red flag. And remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it is.

I think another way is to double check the domain name. Scammers will tend to create “similar” domain names to trick the user into thinking they are on a legit site, like Yah00.com or Amaz0b.net, making subtle changes that you may not even notice. Always double check the address bar to see if you have been redirected to a website that is not legitimate.

I mostly go to websites that I know aren't out to con me. Like if I want to buy something, I go to Amazon or Ebay. That's pretty much it.

A phone is a bit much. I wouldn't want to use a phone in my online stuff. However, I wouldn't trust a place that didn't have a way to get a refund.

I want to buy a phone case and the only one I find that actually interests me is on a certain website. I ran it through WHOIS and another virus detector site and it seems safe. The website itself doesn't raise any red flags either. It seems very professional and well-put. But when I search about it outside it's website, I see absolutely nothing about it. I don't see reviews on it either. It's kind of making me suspicious. Is the website not being too well known and having no reviews a red flag or not? Also on WHOIS it says it was made through Shopify so I was thinking it could just be run by a small business owner if that makes sense?
