Does your phone still do security updates? Mine is a Google Pixel 3 and it's been years since they last did a security update. My husband's phone stopped getting updates last fall.

So this is a thread where people talk about how they don’t care about security?
It may not be intentional, but a thread asking others if they haven't had security updates in years is either low key bragging, or trying to find confirmation that you're not the only one in the wrong so you can feel better about what you're doing. If that's how you choose to interpret it.

The same could be said if someone made a thread asking whether or not others do something like not wearing deoderant, or using their turn signals. They're doing something wrong, but they'll either regret making the thread when people tell them they're in the wrong, or feel better when others go "oh, I also don't do that".
If you worded it that way in the OP, I would be able to interpret the thread to mean that and gave a less snarky answer. Your OP comes off like you’re bragging about your phone not getting security updates in years as opposed to asking why Google stopped supporting it years ago.Or it could be a thread wondering why companies feel the need to drop perfectly good phones so they can keep making a buck?

It reads like “I haven’t had security updates on my phone in years! Who else hasn’t had updates?“
I've never kept a phone long enough to reach the point of no longer having updates. My iPhone 12 Pro is getting old, but Apple hasn't turned it into a paperweight just yet.
How much do you pay a month to have an iPhone?
I bought my phone outright a little bit after its release in 2020. So nothing for the phone itself.
I'm just so old school, I can't see myself paying so much just for a phone. Maybe as I grow to use my phone more and more for daily necessities, I'll see how it has value.
There’s not really a lot of context clues in your OP. Outside of asking us if your phone gets security updates, you just tell us what phone you and your husband have, and how you guys aren’t getting updates and just stops there. And here I thought I was just matter of fact?

So at that point, it’s like… okay… what kind of responses are you looking for here? Is this a thread to where we just post if our phone gets security updates, or are you asking why Google isn’t supporting (what you think) is a perfectly functional phone? If you wanted to fish for responses towards the latter, in the future, you should put context clues in your OP to steer people in that direction. That way, you can lessen the chances of people misinterpreting the post in a way you don’t want.
I took some persuasive writing course in college, so I had to learn about things like tone in text putting in context to steer people into specific directions for discussions.
