Crazy times indeed. I do not support piracy... so much work is put into movies and video games. This totally under minds the whole point of sanctions but I guess Russia needs to do what they believe they have to do. Hopefully the general population can see how wrong this is and question their leadership.

Have you guys ever created your own video or movie content or even your own video game? It takes a lot of work and time. I've dabbled into it in the past and they were under 5 minutes long. As for a video game I could't even make it past the original story line creation let alone the actual designing.

It's a populist decision to try keeping the citizens attached to the current policies, they know that their resources are really doing damage on global economy.

Looks like they're trying to go down the route of China and just not care what the rest of the world thinks. Not sure how effective that is going to be though because China seems to do a better job of not relying on the West

A lot of it is also whether said item has a copyright in Russia. It's hard to enforce a copyright law on something when there isn't a copyright in said country.

In the late 2000's, a lot of guitar tab websites were getting hit with copyright claims, but one site, Ultimate Guitar, didn't get shut down, because at the time, the site was located in Russia. So the MPAA couldn't do anything about enforcing the law, because those copyright laws didn't apply to Russia.

I guess that's why there are specific hosting services for sites that advertise and host nulled content. Not sure what countries those operate from though.

I didn't know that. How interesting. I remember I would visit lyric sites regularly in the past then one day they started shutting down - I'm sure for a similar reason.

Well when everything is getting blocked, what else can you do? Though I would lay off of it, once the war is done legal issues are sure to come after those who stole stuff.
To be fair, China is not in a war with the West and they seem to be getting by perfectly fine. They love copying games and cars

Hell, they counterfeit their own stuff too. You can read articles of how it’s not unusual to get counterfeit bills from their ATM’s, or see counterfeit copies of major retail chains. The shady thing about the counterfeit stores is how they charge the same prices as the real one.

I guess we do also get that from time to time in Western countries. In the UK, you can usually find some corner shops that are purposefully named to be similar to some bigger brands. And then you get Aldi and Lidl which love to copy products from other companies but makes sense to change the packaging up to avoid getting sued.
