Do you think the 18+ warnings that adult sites tend to have when you first visit them are enough? Or do you think they should implement stricter controls to stop under-18s visiting their sites?

All the warnings in the world isn't going to stop an underage individual from accessing 18+ sites if they really wanted to.

A while back, our government introduced plans for age verification on adult sites. So, if you wanted to use one of these, you would've had to not only say you were over 18, but provide proof, in the form of a driver's licence or some other form of ID.

In the end, this wasn't implemented. And I'm glad it wasn't, because: a) I bet it wouldn't have stayed with just porn sites for very long (and it might have been extended to social media and forums as a whole), and b) at a time when people are increasingly concerned about protecting their personal data, why would they want a law that forces them to hand over even more?

I remember hearing about that when I lived there. Maybe I’m a bit too old school, but I’m still under the mindset of anonymity online (outside of Facebook, but I also only add people I know irl), but I felt really weird having to upload pictures of my driver’s license on a website dedicated to selling nicotine products.

I caved in because I get that it’s the law here in the US to be 21 and over, and they were gonna have my name and mailing address, then having a picture of my driver’s license with my name and mailing address wasn’t that far out there.

Something to note, is that parental controls exist for kids for their web browsing.

I don’t get why someone else has to implement stricter controls when the parents are the ones who have the access to implement it on their kids.

I believe in a free internet. I don't agree with the government stepping in and restricting access to certain sites (TikTok for example), or requiring you to essentially present identification to be able to access it. I understand the age concerns, but that ultimately comes down to parenting.

The 18+ warnings are not enough. But there is nothing else they can do. Unless you want them to be doing a KYC verification for people aiming to use their sites.

In my opinion the 18+ warnings won't help with the youngsters not visiting the adult sites. I bet they should look for alternative ways to curb that.

I don't know if there is any way that adult sites could control minors from accessing the site apart from the normal warning. IP addresses don't reveal the age of the user.
