Ask PGen anything

Have you ever used Urban Dictionary to find out a meaning of a word?

I'm ashamed to say that yes, I have had to use it on more than one occasion to catch up on the different cool words :D

Don't worry, I've used it as well. Sometimes the words are just a bit too absurd for us to know what they mean.

Do you still watch the news on live TV?

Rarely, I tend to read the news more often than not

What do you think is the best source for news?
There used to be a great news aggregator called breakingnews.com, I used that ALL the time to read the news, because it wasn't slanted to right or left wing views, it was just...the news. Since that closed down, however, I find myself using flipboard an awful lot for news,

Where did you come up with your username?
The PGen part comes from a website I used to run, PlatinumGamers, which then turned into PlatinumGeneration. I used the name PGen98 on support sites when I was running that site, and it just stuck with me, even though I shut the site down after 18 years of operation. The 98 comes from the fact that, when I first moved to the US, I started watching hockey, and as a kid I gravitated towards the Anaheim Mighty Ducks, because of the films. In those days they had two players who played on the same line, Paul Kariya, number 9, and Teemu Selanne, number 8. Together they were an absolutely incredible duo, so I took their numbers together and used that at the end of essentially every username I ever had moving forward. I moved on from the Ducks the very next season, to support the Dallas Stars, the team I support to this day, but I kept the number! So, convoluted, but that's where PGen98 comes from :)

That's a very cool origin story for your username actually. What made you close down PlatinumGeneration?

A combination of the core member base moving onto other things and me wanting to try new things. I liked what we built as a core, but once they started to filter out and move on the site started to feel like it was on borrowed time.

Yeah, it can be hard to keep everyone forever interested I guess. It's a tough thing to get out of once you notice users filtering out slowly.

Have you ever wanted to create another site?

I have created sites since then, but mostly just hobby or personal project sites. Nothing that lasted. I have a small forum just now for a bunch of friends, but otherwise I just can't dedicate myself to a larger project as I don't have a set schedule or much free time because of having to look after my mother.
How many number one albums did Cilla Black have in the 60s?
Haven't a clue, sadly

Is there a forum software that you hate using as a user?
Ipb, too bloated, imo. Quicksilver Forums, as well. Used to be great as Mercury Board, but they went under and QSF forked them and just went... odd.

I would agree with IPB actually. Feels very slow and unresponsive sometimes as well especially when it's hosted with some crappy host.
