Capital Punishment

Rehabilitating criminals back into productive members of society is the best approach

Really, where did I say that?

The first quote is where you said it. Then you claim you didn't. Who are you, Trump? LOL Back to my point, so killers like BTK should be "rehabilitated" and made "productive members of society"? Seriously? Dahmer just needed some love and attention and he'd not raped, murdered, and ATE multiple young boys? Ted Bundy was really just a nice guy who had mommy issues? The reason there is so much crime in the US is because punishments are not severe enough. No one even gets executed any more. They sit on death row for 60 freaking years then simply die of old age. And on that same token, how is the death penalty "more expensive" than 5 decades of free room and board, 3 hot meals a day, free internet, TV, exercise equipment, etc? You are telling me all that is LESS costly than simply frying some POS murderer rapist?

Anyway, I'm done with this thread. It's clear that you simply can't accept my opinion, yet I'm the one who is "narrow" minded. Good day to you.

What is your opinion on capital punishment? Are you for or against it? What crimes, if any, do you feel are worthy of capital punishment?

I believe it is a just punishment for certain crimes.

I do not believe that any government can be trusted to use it appropriately.

Thus, while morally I can support it in certain cases, the practicality of it makes me wish for its abolishment.

I'm for it if they have the correct forensic, circumstantial, and objective evidence pinning the person to particular crimes that warrant capital punishment. But if they're just going to misuse it to execute innocent people, then it shouldn't be used at all.

but there would be those who are innocent who would get it as well.
I think if the death penalty is ever considered, there needs to be volumes of evidence to make sure the person they're going to be putting to death is guilty. They have to be sure about it. They shouldn't just assume the defendant did it when the offense doesn't have evidence to support any and all unsubstantiated claims. That's just not fair. Research first, then they should decide on the guilty/ not guilty verdict.

Such as the West Memphis 3 who were wrongfully accused and one of them was facing the death penalty when the authorities had no circumstantial or forensic evidence suggesting they ever committed those murders. That was wrong on so many levels that people bore false witness. Those men were teenage boys when they were locked up over a crime they didn't commit. I'm glad they were released.

Thus, while morally I can support it in certain cases, the practicality of it makes me wish for its abolishment.
I think if they're not going to research and gather circumstantial, direct, physical, forensic, or circumstantial evidence to appropriately convict defendants correctly & execute innocent people because the authorities didn't do their job. Then I'm in agreement with you. There's no point if they're just going to misuse it.

Murderers and rapists should be executed. Pedophiles and other molesters should have their genitals removed.

Agree with all of this. Hard not too.

Need to be 100% certain of guilt though. That in itself can be difficult because most the crimes we would execute for are so emotionally charged.

I am against capital punishment. In my home country, there is no capital punishment even for the gravest crime. Capital punishment is an act of barbarism. However, sometimes there are discussions on capital punishment especially when incidents of mass rape or minor rape occur.

Yes definitely. If there is irrefutable proof that they are guilty, then immediate execution is in order.

I respect your opinion. But as I'm sure people have said, commiting murder, esp. of children, is also barbaric and the punishment should fit the crime, IMO.

Always, we should try to fix society - and that starts mostly with the family, so people don't have capital crimes. It's really a tragedy to see someone commit felonies, simply cause it could have been prevented in most cases I think.

Yes, but how are you going to predict which person in which family is going to be a serial killer when they "grow up"? Sometimes there are no outward signs. Someone could have a perfect childhood, but for some reason, start killing people. Did BTK show signs of psychosis as a child? Even if we knew he'd turn into a killer, there is no cure for psychosis as it is mainly a physical difference in the human brain . So what are we to do with these people?

So many killings, like domestic abuse ones, are so heat of the moment. How can we say killers are really inborn monsters?

A little late on the reply, eh? And you didn't even respond to my last post. lol

I never said killers are inborn or not. I do believe though that the protentional of becoming a killer later can be stronger in certain people at birth, esp. those with mental disorders, but I feel there are a LOT of factors at work, not just biology.

It's really too complex for knee jerk emotions to rule like "kill them".

Remember also the room for false allegations due to discrimination, selfish motives on part of accuser etc.

Finally, hasn't everyone wanted to rip inro someone? But sometimes it goes too far.

We've strayed off topic. I firmly believe in capital punishment, simple as that....

Another thing is attachment disorders with children due to abuse. It's sad to see how society punishes the abused.
However, after a certain point, there isn't many options.

My final thought on it is that, if there is irrefutable evidence linking the offender to a horrific crime (first degree murder mainly) and they show no remorse, then no trial. They should be taken out behind the courthouse and shot to death.

For those criminals with serious offenses, they should be in prison forever. In this way, they can do bad things to innocent souls.
I don't want my taxes to pay for some criminal to get 3 meals a day, free room and board, hot showers, weight lifting equipment, internet access, and free health care. F that.

That's how I feel. It's not fair. Our prison system works so well, that these people want to go back as soon as they get out because in prison they don't have to take responsibility or worry about retirement or worry about paying to keep a roof over their head. Why do that when the government is milking the cow for them?
