Have you ever considered changing the niche of your website after starting it up? If so, what pushed you towards changing it?

Not when it comes to my blog. My blog is literature based and literature is something that I love (I've had my blog for over 3 years btw).

My current forum (an RPG), I had considered making it a Harry Potter RPG but I've noticed there are a lot of Harry Potter rpg's out there and I didn't want to find myself buried under all the others. So, my current forum is an RPG based on another popular series. The series has been described as a mix between Harry Potter and Twilight.

Started as gaming but decided to expand to all entertainment, I’m keeping it that way though.

a minor niche change, gaming is one of the main focuses still though.

For me, Serene Distraction naturally evolved and adjusted to the interests of its members. When I first started the forum it was primarily a poetry forum. It's now considered a Creative Arts forum which covers areas (but not limited to) poetry, stories, photography, digital art, etc.

Nope, stayed the course for almost 15 years later. Did think about going to anime only but I'm glad I stuck to games :)
Was this a while ago or something you were thinking of relatively recently (couple of years)?

I think it's a good thing in certain circumstances to go from a more "niche" forum into a generalised one like entertainment. That way you can attract a few different users instead of just gamers.

That’s why I did :)
The focus is still gaming but with more options such as music & sports which I also like.

I think it was like 4 or 6 years into my forum life, RP/anime boards were all the rage at the time so I thought moving over would do it but in the end anime boards fizzled out. And this was at a time I was the only one posting on my site, so the idea of changing niche was strong.

Sort of. I started out with a chess forum, which was reasonably active... apart from the chess sections :p .

I considered making it just a general forum, but in the end, I just ended up starting a brand new forum to replace it.

Yeah, I would imagine a general discussion forum with some dedicated chess sections might work. But a niche chess forum might be a little too hard to work with
