Dealing with visitors

How do you politely tell your visitors that it's time to go home?
I say i have stuff to do.. check my clock and if things are getting harder, i pick up my car keys and that's the most obvious sign that i need to leave, and all that without saying "you need to go" :p

I'll just straight up tell them I have errands to run or chores to do, although I will tell them nicely about it.

I don't think I've ever had to go past this first step. But if someone refused to leave after I told them, nicely, that I have to go and whatnot, then I'd kindly ask the police to escort them out of my house.

I'm a homebody & we rarely have visitors outside of my parents who are my best friends. But even with them, we all know each other well enough to say, Ok, time to go now.
When we have had visitors, like at our garage sales, who tend to overstay, we get up & do subtle things like re-organize. We may say something like Oh, thank you for the nice chat but we really need to get back to our sale.

Walk towards the door while saying: "It's been really great catching up, we should do it again soon".

I would tell my visitor that I have to get my kids to school early in the morning and then after that I have to be at work.
