I was so excited for Christmas morning! We grew up very poor and I knew our tree wasn't as filled as my friends' trees were, but that meant my parents put a lot of thought into the gifts they gave. I almost always loved getting a doll for Christmas and every year my sister would complain she never got anything she wanted. The family always got chocolate covered cherries, mints and our stockings had the lifesaver boxes as well as a few pieces of candy.
Even when I was a kid, I understood the struggles my mom went through as a single parent; I did not want or expect much. I enjoyed the holidays when my entire family got together, and sadly, when mom passed, that all went away.
