Do you always believe what people say about themselves online?

When it comes to being online, do you believe someone when they claim to be something they might not be?

For example: A lot of people claim to be honest and moral online like forums and dating websites and as some of us know, often that turns out to be a complete lie. It just seems these days when someone says "I'm not fake" or " You can trust me" or something of that nature, it seems to raise red flags.

In the exact words of the great Albert Einstein-

“You should never believe anything just because it is written on the Internet, only if your conscience or you inner soul says that something is correct then you should believe it”

I don't know really, I generally just take what people say on forums as correct, not particularly bothered if it's not, doesn't make a difference to my life much.

Kinda depends, some people make it kinda obvious they're talking out of their hole, but if one of my online friends said something I kinda would just automatically believe anything they said lmao

I can't help but be skeptical whenever someone says "You can trust me" or "believe me". I do like to believe that people speak the truth most of the time. There's too much to remember if you lie continuously.

The amount of times I’ve been told that yet they turn out to be terrible friends is I lost count.

You're correct by speaking the truth, I think it's possible that a person can be telling the truth when they say that they "believe" they're a good and moral human being, it doesn't mean they actually are. Because that's what BELIEF is. That's the part we're getting even though their actions prove otherwise.

That's why polygraph evidence is inconsistent and dismissive in court. A person can believe in their own delusions that are untrue and talk about it as if it were fact when it clearly is not.

Just like someone can believe themselves to be a moral and a just person who actually turns out to be very immoral based on their actions because they're always justifying every wrong they commit to validate their immoral choices either by hiding behind their religion of choice or under their imaginary high moral standards.

Not really. I think the internet has made it a lot easier for a lot of people to lie and just pretend they're different. This is obviously not always bad but you have to be careful when communicating with people and how you interact with them.

Maybe he was just bad at keeping jobs ? ?
Who knows. He was one of those know it all types, so that was his “ackshually” schpeal. “I do this for a living, it’s part of my job”, but they were rarely (if ever) in the same field.

The liars that annoy me are the ones who aren’t good at it, and can’t keep a consistent story.

One guy I knew had a different job every time he mentioned it. At least come up with a bogus backstory for yourself and stick to it.
I just don't understand why somebody would do that in the first place, what exactly are they getting from it!

I've seen it all and more that I wish I never seen. I say, take everything with a grain of salt.

This....

There are people out there that will lie to your face so it's not surprising when someone does it online. My point is you have to do like DS said and take everything with a grain of salt.

Attention and the want to be the centre of attention. I've never understood it but I guess if you can pretend to be better than you are in real life, it's good enough for them.

Basically, though I think this guy was also trying to ad "validity" to whatever nonsense he was making up whenever he talked about stuff.
