I see serious problems with both sides of the spectrum. However, though, some will mock a moderate for being weak or a weenie or whatever. Anyway, though, I feel more people are moderate then you think, but they don't have real options at the voting booth.

I think most people are moderate, but it's the loudest voices that get heard and they're the extreme. Even though I'm conservative and think I'm far right, I've come across some really really really extreme conservatives and I just can't relate to them.
I think a lot of the folks who are on the political extremes treat political parties like a sports team where it’s ride or die. I’ve seen quite a few people that you can tell don’t really believe in a policy, but are only defending it because they identify as that ideology.
It also doesn’t help that news sites magnify the idiots on the opposing side, and ignore the ones on your side. So it causes people to think that if someone doesn’t 100% agree with you, they’re against everything you believe in.
Also with the internet, it’s easy to lock yourself into a political echo chamber, and your only exposure to the other side is through the crazy people. So that further exacerbates the notion that everyone who disagrees with you is an extremist from the opposing party.

Many conservatives do a lot to help people via church charities etc.. I don't think they are totally unempathetic is some claim, but perhaps they think it's not the government's place to be a helper and of course, the whole "pansy" name-calling is misleading.
Anyway, a big problem I see, though, is that charities can only help so much. Churches, despite good intentions, seemingly cannot change society and a lot of the discrimination accusations are real.
I don't think the government can change society either, and that's what people keep hoping.
I really feel like disadvantaged people are not truly exploring private-sector educational and job opportunities. Also, why not use state sponsored education to truly lift yourself up, so you're not needing the government anymore?
Wouldn't that be a great non-profit organization to start up...and get to the people in school and as they graduate to help them find what fits them and helps them?
Honesty, and Republicans don't want to hear it, but right-wing regimes like Czarist Russia or the Batista regime in Cuba were plagued with poor healthcare and low education, but the price for improvement was Communist slavery, but then again, some countries are doing better now even without socialism, like the Dominican Republic.
The D.R. poverty rate is above 20%. Their healthcare isn't the best even though it's "free" because the system doesn't pay for everything.
I must admit that I am not into politics. Regardless, I will not take any sides, but I can still go in the middle.
