Fix or buy new?

I just end up getting a new one tbh. I have a desktop that needs a new graphics card since it was going bad when I stopped using it a few years ago. I know it'll probably be cheaper to repair what I have but meh. I should get it fixed and sell it since I don't plan on using it anymore at this point. It's already well outdated, I got it in 2014.

If it was PC related than I look into the problems that the device has and try and work it out myself and fix the error. Allot of people forget that at times it can be software than hardware.

If the motherboard has packed up and then I would say get a new laptop, no point getting a new board. If it was a desktop that's custom made then you just get a new board and check for compatibility. At times if boards go also means need a new board and CPU.

This year my 10-year-old board had to be replaced and so I had to get new board, CPU and DDR4 memory.

I just been getting a new one, sure you can throw in some new RAM or a SSD, but that mother board isn't as young as it used to be. Though I do plan on keeping my recent custom built going for some time.

Really depends on what i'm using that PC for. If i want to use it as a FileServer then i might wanna fix it, if the MOBO died then i might sell the remaining components and try to get a newer one, there are good prizes for 2018 hardware like intel's 9th gen or ryzen 3000 series.

Problems start when you wanna build the newest powerhouses.. i can imagine that DDR5 RAM will have skyhigh prizes..

Usually a strong malware program can solve the problems most desktops or laptops seem to face. I mean, something like Malware Bytes. Anyway, it's certainly not a problem solved by getting another device, but inexperienced people might try that.

My last laptop, I just bought a new one instead of fixing it. It was about time I got a new one anyway. Plus, I had the money at the time to purchase a new one so it was better to get one while I was financially able to get it.

My husband is IT so we definitely try to get my systems fixed before giving in and buying new. Anything software related can be fixed somehow but it's the hardware that could be more of a problem that might not be easy, especially since I use a laptop instead of a tower and monitor PC.

If the repair is going to cost 50% of a new one, then I'll go buy one.

When your PC goes bad, do you have it fixed or do you buy a new one?
I usually try to fix it before I spend much more on a brand new computer. In fact, my motherboard died recently on my desktop PC and instead of paying for a new computer I just bought and installed a new motherboard.

And here's a tip, if you are bored of your current computer but can't afford to buy a new one, then just get a new computer case and your old computer will look all new. ;)

New.

I'm useless at fixing anything. I would likely buy a prebuilt gaming PC.

It depends on the issue, if it’s a minor problem I’d fix it, if it’s unfixable I’d buy new.
With Desktops, if something goes wrong then replace the part :) I mean my Laptop screen went on me and got smashed, and I replaced the screen :) and still using the Laptop now ;)
