Did your parents ever hit you as a young child when you got in trouble?

Yes, I was disciplined as a child, I actually believe it did me some good but I was only ever hit if I did something really bad.

Nope. Wouldn’t have done any good anyway, punishment just made me resentful and inspired me to find better ways around it. It was the lectures I feared, because they weren’t going to end until I understood that what I did was wrong and why it was wrong.

I think it’s unnecessary. The vast majority of humans want to be good, so it’s more useful to show them how. Hitting someone’s a good deterrent, but it’s not a good tool for teaching and development.

I can understand your point perfectly. Don’t get me wrong I was never hit hard, I was only ever tapped on the hand as a kid, when I was a teenager my dad used to take my Xbox off me as a punishment.

I got spankings, got the belt, been smacked, picked up and thrown onto my bed out of my step father's frustration with me. I don't think I ever was actually abused though. If anything, I was grounded all of the time because it didn't take much to get on my mother's nerves. She's a really hot headed woman. I still can't tell her anything without her getting pissed off and spamming my phone with her rantings. I do think she needs counseling and medication that would calm her down. I don't like how she treats me sometimes. So I just lie to her about my feelings and what my problems are because she just adds to them to upset me. If I have a good thing going, I don't say anything about it because telling her anything has it's consequences.

I don't recall ever getting hit by either of my parents. I don't know how much good it would have done, in all honesty. Being given a stern talk or even just a regular conversation generally did the trick. Not that I did a lot of things "bad" persay anyway.
