I have been using the same laptop for around four years now. I currently have an Acer laptop, and it works fine, but it's getting to where the area around the keyboard is cracking and it's just getting old and outdated.

The current specs:

Processor Intel(R) Celeron(R) N4000 CPU @ 1.10GHz 1.10 GHz
Installed RAM 4.00 GB (3.83 GB usable)
Device ID A3F83806-5F38-4371-A1AA-D2F810F16BDE
Product ID 00356-02016-30203-AAOEM
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
Pen and touch Touch support with 10 touch points

I would really love to get an upgraded laptop, one that has more built-in memory preferably, but I am needing something that's affordable. I honestly do not want to spend over $450 on a laptop.

Do you guys have any preferences on what type of laptop I could purchase? Something that is lightweight, fast, has a good amount of built-in memory, and is reliable? I want something that is going to last me a while.

Thank you all in advance.

These days you’re not going to get a Windows laptop that’ll last awhile at $450. Some of the ones that do run Windows run in Windows S mode, so you’re only allowed to install software from the Windows App Store, and their App Store is basically a joke. If it runs full Windows, it’s going to be by some sketchy brand that nobody’s heard of, and will either break by looking at it, or will be so slow it isn’t worth it.

If all you basically do is browse the web, knock yourself out with a Chromebook, they all run very well at that price range. They also basically killed the lower end market of Windows laptops. All of the laptop manufacturers that used to make budget laptops all make Chromebooks at that price range, and those are significantly faster and more reliable than a Windows laptop at that price.

If you want a Windows laptop, you gotta spend about $600.

Do you believe something like this would work well? I'm not too tech savvy when it comes to specs. Would this possibly be better than what I have already?

I agree with Grungie that looks like a decent purchase if you're trying to be cost-effective. Few tips on setting it up:

Refuse the Windows 11 upgrade if it gives you a choice
You don't have to use an online account when setting it up (kill the internet and it will allow an offline account)
Be sure to turn off anything you can during the set up process, Windows can have a bad habit of collecting data.

And be sure to take a moment to fill out the manufacture warranty, just encase something happens.

Thank you for all the information!

Windows 11 works fine, I don’t see why it needs to be refused.

What would you be using it for mainly? Would you be gaming or doing office work on it because that really decides what you should get and the specs. I personally think a Mac is a pretty good way to go but if you want to game then you should look at the gaming laptops from someone like Asus ROG or Razer.

Mostly it would be for office work and configuring a couple of websites I own. I don't plan to play games on it.

Some programs still may not work right on it compared to windows 10. Always safer to go with the more supported setup.

This should be more than enough for it, I hope it gets to you safely.

I am now using the new laptop! It's awesome, the screen is bigger than my last, and it makes everything appears so much bigger. The screen quality is amazing and the keyboard lights up.
