Some people will keep complaining, when it's obvious long waits are due to employee shortages. How do you feel about such people?

There's no shortage of Karens out there. Where I live they've been putting signs in windows to treat their employees with respect and to be patient.

I saw a lady throw a fit in Subway one day over NOTHING and started cussing at the girl across the counter. It was disrespectful and uncalled for. I called the woman out on her bad behavior because none of the strangers in the restaurant were coming to the poor girls defense. I told the Karen to "stop it".

When someone is being dogged like that at their job. Yes, people need to step in and put a stop to it. You're part of the problem when you hold your peace. Speak up and be part of the solution. When you stand there and do nothing, you're actually encouraging them to do it more because Karens seem to think that their audience is in agreement with them.

I agree, speak up and shut the Karen's up in those situations. We need to be understanding in these circumstances. I picked up a pizza the other day and it was just one girl in the shop working, alone. She was swamped with orders, and when I came in at the time my order should've been ready, she was so apologetic that it hadn't even gone in the oven yet. She looked horrified she was going to have another situation on her hands. I'm not that type, though, and I let her know I was just fine and you could see the relief on her face. They shouldn't have to work under those sorts of fears, just be understanding and patient when things are busy.

Every day when driving home for lunch I see the fast food lines going out of their parking lot., Instead of that extremely long line, why not go home and throw together a sandwich? It's what I do and saves me extra time.

Instant gratification. Most people who eat fast food do it regularly and part of the reason why is because they want WHAT they want (predictable menu) WHEN they want (now).... so when either of these things fails to be provided to them, they throw a tantrum. It's not just fast food. It's the retail industry as well.

I've worked in retail a long time so I try to be patient when I'm dealing with other people who are working in a customer service job, regardless if it's another retail person or someone in a restaurant or anything else.

I've said this before now but I've always said that people should be required to spend 6 months to a year working in a retail position, especially around the Christmas holidays. I say this because I feel like people might act different when they go out in public and are dealing with these people who work in customer service positions. They might be a little nicer.

I used to work in retail and there were quite a few people who were rude to me. It was worse when I was a cashier but I still had jerks when I worked in the dairy department at Walmart. I agree with Jennyor Alice, I think everyone should have to work in retail or customer service in their lifetime so they have a better understanding of how things work.

I've never worked in the food industry so I can't speak from experience. However, I think everyone should be required to work in food service or retail at least once in their lives so they can appreciate the work that goes behind these places we visit so often.

I agree with that statement. They should not only be required to work at these places but they should have to work at these places around Christmas time when things are even busier than normal.

Exactly. Some people don't know what it's like to have to work weekends and holidays.

Anyone who bloody complains about service is usually a jerk. I understand that there are some cases where there is a genuine case for being a "Karen" but when you see that a store is struggling due to being short-staffed, just having a bit more patience seems like common sense.

Exactly. I have to give up my holidays and weekends all the time. That's when my husband is off is the holidays and weekends. So, I don't get to spend a lot of time with him.

That's tough. Meeting my husband was a very big factor in my decision to leave the retail industry. I grew weary of constantly turning down invitations by our family and friends to outings and gatherings because I had to work.

I've never worked in retail but I can definitely imagine it must be really difficult tough to have a social life with the amount of hours you need to work.

Yeah, I think I've grown tired of it as well. That's why I've been looking for another job.

If people don't have the patience to wait for something, they shouldn't wait. They can go to a grocery store, buy some food items and make their own food. That is just my thoughts.

I agree with this statement. My hubby doesn't have patience to wait in line for any restaurant. But he won't complain about it though. Instead, he'll just go somewhere else to eat that doesn't look so busy. It's nothing personal......he just knows he doesn't have the patience to stand in line to wait.

There was one time, another lady and I were running a register at work when this gentleman walked up to us (after he had been watching us for a few minutes). He said, "I don't know how much money y'all make but you don't get paid enough for what you do. I couldn't do your job." This was after we had just finished with a busy spell. We each had a line 4 miles long, customers were asking for help in other areas of the store, the phones were ringing off the hook, etc. It was just really nice that someone made that nice comment at that moment.
