Most of the forums run a contest of "top poster of the month" and " highest referral for the month" . In both the cases the prize money is announced and the winners are paid at the end of the month.

It doesn't encourage me personally, but it's a fun event to have to give valuable members of the community a little bit of recognition.

It doesn't motivate me to post either. Being part of an awesome community and getting a high contributing post count is reward enough for me.
