6 different diseases have been eradicated because of vaccines.

The six diseases:

1. Smallpox: The U.S. announced smallpox eradicated in 1972. Less than a decade later, it became the first and only disease eliminated worldwide.

2. Polio: A polio vaccine was unveiled in 1955, and the disease was declared eliminated by 1979.

3. Diphtheria: People first received the vaccine in the 1920s, and the CDC reported less than five cases in the U.S. over the past decade.

4. Mumps: Only a few hundred people in the U.S. contract the disease every year, thanks to a vaccine introduced in 1967.

5. Measles: The CDC recently warned the U.S. could lose its elimination status if the country's current outbreak continues through the fall.

6. Rubella: Vaccines were first introduced in the 1960s, and the World Health Organization declared rubella eliminated from the Americas in 2015.

The iconic stone heads protruding from the ground on Easter Island are familiar to most, but many don't realize what lies beneath the surface. In the '10s, archaeologists studying the hundreds of stone statues on the Pacific Island excavated two of the figures, revealing full torsos, which measure as high as 33 feet.

Adolf Hitler was a drug addict. He used cocaine, pervitin or crystal methamphetamine, oxycodone, and morphine.

When Hitler heard about the plan to invade through Ardennes, he loved it [the allies were massed in northern Belgium]. But the high command said: it’s not possible, at night we have to rest, and they [the allies] will retreat and we will be stuck in the mountains. But then the stimulant decree was released, and that enabled them to stay awake for three days and three nights. Rommel [who then led one of the panzer divisions] and all those tank commanders were high – and without the tanks, they certainly wouldn’t have won.”

A tube of Pervitin

Pervitin: Nazi Germany’s drug of choice.
Thereafter, drugs were regarded as an effective weapon by high command, one that could be deployed against the greatest odds.

There's a company that turns dead bodies into an ocean reef. For those who romanticize a burial at sea, the company Eternal Reefs offers an innovative solution. It mixes the cremated remains of a person with concrete to create a "pearl" onto which loved ones can etch personal messages, handprints or (environmentally friendly) mementos. The pearl is then encased in a "reef ball" that is dropped into the sea, where it provides a new habitat for fish and other sea life, helping encourage a vibrant ecosystem.
