Returning back gifts

What do you think about partners that request for their gifts when a relationship goes south. Do you think it's a childish thing to do?

I don't like taking back gifts. It's kind of pointless. When I've ended relationships or friendships, I didn't want to take back anything. It just makes you look bad.
