Only seen part of the first season. The episodes are extremely short. Does anyone know why that is?

No idea, just did a quick Google search to see what that turned up and nothing.
 
The durations tend to vary quite a bit which is annoying. Some episodes feel like they finish extremely quickly especially with the opening and closing credits taking up some time.

Episode 16 was just bloody amazing! Very sad that we won't get more until next year now :(
