Updates from forums?

These days updates seem to slower and slower in releasing. I would prefer a security update at least once per six months.
 
I assume we're talking about forum software? It needs to be happening regularly, but not too often where it's just a pain. I'd be very worried using a software that hasn't been updated in more than a couple years.
