Windows 10?

Has a better windows defender but in the end it's the obvious successor of windows 7 in stability, also Windows 8 and 8.1 look like a tablet OS.
Feels smoother in a way and launchs even faster than w7.

I like the way Windows 10 is moving with cool features, options and support. But i dislike the junks which gets installed with the OS (i know we can remove it). The breaking of system when an new update is installed.
Now i recall the stupid amount of times that we get an update that takes forever to implement.
I have windows 10 pro, its.... not the worst, far better than 8 but I wish MS just stuck with W7.
No, as someone who adored Win7 I really don't like Win10 and it's what pushed me to use Linux instead.
It's just an OS that, in my experience, never seems to do what it's told. On 2 completely different machines that I own, a fresh install needs to be wrestled with to get ethernet working - it'll come on for about 15 minutes and then go out, so you have to do a combination of running the troubleshooter/running ipconfig commands/re-insterting the cable until it decides it wants to connect again. Then it will only last about an hour before it goes out again.
I'd then try download drivers from the mobo vendors website, I've tried disabling the firewall/defender, I've tried static vs. dynamic IPs, changing my DNS, checking power options for network... I've tried everything I can think of, and yet no matter what these 2 installs of Win10 on 2 different machines absolutely refuse to maintain an internet connection.
That's just one of the kind of issues I encounter with the OS, there's other small things like trying to delete a folder -> it gets to 100% -> it doesn't delete.

Yes, i hear from my friends that something gets broken and they look into the Internet for an fix (not all the time). But in Linux it is smooth and i don't have to restart it to apply it.
There are plenty of people who do in fact like Windows 10; I am one of them.
Of course, it has problems and faults, but for the most part and in all the ways that truly matter, it is a massive improvement over the previous editions of Windows. You can tell that people like Windows 10 since if it was in fact deemed a repulsive failure, like Vista was, we would have seen a new Windows version a few years following 10’s initial release. Instead, we are supplied with a continuous stream of updates, bug fixes, security patches, and new features to Windows 10. They wouldn’t put so much backbone in a product if they thought it was a lost cause

we all love W7 that's for sure. I had those problems you said with a few Intel NUC that i prepared for my ex-job. If that's a notebook then just delete it from the resources admin panel and let Windows reinstall it by itself, if it's so exclusive like a premium version of a specific net card then you shall download the drivers first.
Either way i own one of those tp link ones that are far from being sophisticated and i got it right from the start, btw if it's a desktop then you might wanna check if it's in the right PCI express dedicated slot.
I quite like Windows 10. Heck, I've even got used to the new start menu after having issues with Classic Shell.

People will get used to it afterwards, I mean what choice do you have. Other OS has stopped supporting.
They're both desktop machines, the first one was using a Z170-M Plus mobo with an Intel I219-V, and the second was using a x570 GPC mobo with an Intel I211-AT. I'm not really well versed on network stuff but perhaps it is actually an Intel problem rather than a Windows problem, I'll have to look up if people are having issues with those chips because I do need to boot into Windows from time to time.
Those cards that you mention seem old as myself, so it's natural it won't work on actual mobos like the x570. But it kinda making me curious since both of them have one that is built-in.
Or are you someone who believes in package losing through wifi use?
I like Windows 10, i think it's the best windows than all the other ones. Easy to use and navigate.
Well, I'm not too surprised in the x570 GPC's case because that board was a pile of crap. 2 of the SATA ports run off this Asmedia Controller thing and your read/writes get tanked and causes hard lockups if an OS drive is connected to them. You can just not use those ports, but it took me a while to figure out what the issue was here.
I ultimately had to replace it cos it can't handle a higher SKU than the 3800x, my 3900x would cause the VRMs to hit 105c if full load was sustained for 2 whole minutes. Awful, awful board.
I've not really tested Windows with my new Asus X570 TUF, so perhaps things will be better for me now.
And no, I've not used Wifi for the desktop in a good 7 years or so now, I can't move the router any closer to me and I got awful signal in my room so it's gotta be ethernet.
For that kind of processors you'll need a better mobo that's for sure, TUF only handles well up to R7, it has a poor VRM which translates into bad temperatures. You can still mount it but it won't work how they're supposed to.
I haven't used a ethernet port since early 2010 lol.
If you try serious competitive gaming then 100% lan cable.
I am contented with Windows 10 and recently I noticed they are forcing Windows 11 on me. I have not allowed it.
It stops getting security updates in October 2025
