I found it easier to just let people join without the headache and if it's a spam bot, just ban those as they come onto your forum.

Do you approve registrations manually on your forum? On the other side, how do you feel about a forum that manually approves?
I used to have that in my board. But it was soon discarded because of inconvenience. But if you want to keep your board Small then i guess it's fine! :p

Nope, I've never done manual registration approvals. Didn't really see the point in it. I just tried to keep an eye on new registrations to make sure they weren't going to abuse the system.

I agree and it is easier to just ban a spam bot then having to approve each and every registration.

I have always used email verification when people join my forums and have not had any issues doing that.

I don't have anything against those who do manually approve as I know how much of a pain it can be to get an influx of spam registrations and if you have had that happen to you, manual might be the way to go whilst you get other things in place to prevent it happening.

I don't even use email verification on my forum because it isn't recommended on Jcink due to the email often getting caught in the spam filter for some email services. I have over 1500 members on my board and I've had little to no trouble with not using any type of approval for registrations. I only have (I believe) three banned accounts that just came to my board to post spam and nothing more.

I dislike when admin approval is on other forums unless it's either a private forum or they have been dealing with mass spamming or something along those lines and have to manually approve those they think are legit users. It's kind of a hassle having to wait to be manually approved and makes me lose a little interest in the forum.

I've done it before because I had a bunch of people join my Mighty No. 9 forum during gamergate and they started spamming and harassing my members. I also ran into email issues on other communities and just set the registration to manual approval until I figured out what the email issue was. (Though it always seems to be gmail emails that have issues not receiving emails...)
