Did they tell members what happened and how they fixed it?

Good to have it back online now. Hopefully, that was the last long period of downtime that we have to suffer.

Didn't realise how much I visited FP until it went down ?

Back when I was actively running forums a few years ago, it seemed like FP was full of a lot of nepotism. All of the forums owned by the staff would win all the contests. I have no idea how these forums that were very active lose to a site that was a ghost town. Also the rate my forum threads all gave 10/10 to staff members.

I also hated basically being told that my site was trash because I didn’t have a domain name. I got consistently bitched at for awhile for using free hosting.

It was also silly seeing all of the staff members be snobby about how to run a “proper community”, but most of the staff couldn’t keep a forum going for more than a couple months.

Wow, my forum lasted 6 years without any of their advice, and they couldn’t make a site last 6 months.

I'm surprised I don't get hate for running a 14-year-old site.

Still, are you still going to FP after all of that?

Like anything else up and down you always going to get that one person being a dosh bag you know. But all in all, going to get nice people. Makes me laugh that those that bitch about others ended up pooped on there end :p

My site is now seven years old and actively is poor and pooped, but HAY - it's still running Xd

Tbh I never participated in those contests, but they had a banner or something in the forum announcing the winner. It got oddly suspicious when you would see month after month it was always the forums owned by the staff members.

The reason why I kept going was more like sticking it to the man. I was initially discouraged until I noticed they would make a forum, and then shut it down in a couple of months, and then remake it, but with a different name. So I was thinking, how about I show them I can run a successful forum for free while they waste their money by making 15 failed forums.

I think a lot of people are guilty of that domain name point and it still goes on now, to be honest. Heck, even I've suggested it to some people which I now know is completely wrong. I've seen forums that are massive and extremely active that are still using free subdomains and free forum hosting solutions.

Well there’s a difference between suggesting it vs saying you can’t succeed without it. That’s what I found ironic with them telling me I couldn’t succeed with a free host and those free domains those sites gave you, yet their sites were ghost towns. That’s why I felt defiant back then to do the opposite of what they told me to do.
