Mandatory Face Coverings on Public Transport

I think this will be tricky to enforce and maintain. Where I live they also have made this mandate for public transit. It will be interesting to see how this goes over with the public.

I completely agree with you, there are a number of factors which make this hard to reinforce. What about those with medical conditions that cannot wear a face covering or mask? How does one prove it to the driver before boarding?

So they had this story on the local news here last night and the public transit company actually had people at each major station handing out masks to those who did not have one. While they have deemed mask usage as "mandatory" they are unable to actually enforce it as like you said, there are some people who cannot use masks due to medical reasons or other reasons. They are more focusing on education vs. actually enforcing/charging people for not adhering to these "rules".

I like the fact that they are focusing on more education than actually handing out fines and causing more unrest and hostility during these times. There is enough hate and hostility going around IMO.

I am interested to see how they handle people who are or claim to be those who qualify for not wearing the mask. Sadly I think that people will be petty enough to pretend they are disabled etc, and ruin it for those who truly are. Could you fine anyone at the time who does not compless, regardless of what they say or if they are disabled? Then if they post in or show proof in the future they receive compensation back? Or would this cause more problems?

That’s the thing, legally there is no fine or punishment that can be given to people who refuse or falsely claim they cannot wear a mask. So then calling it “mandatory” is really not enforceable lol.

In Croatia we got that rule few days ago. In start there was some problem like people who forget mask, some didn't want wear it. Bus drivers want somebody else control people because some travelers were violent. They want police to help them. Also, there was a problem if somebody go in bus with mask, nobody can't stop him to take it off since it is very hard to breathe under it.

I've not seen many people wearing masks (not even hanging around the neck for use in when entering shops) when I've been out walking the dog despite any orders.

I had to wear one to go into the vets and it was awful. Was sweating inside it. Couldn't breathe well in it either.

Personally, if the area wanted to enforce wearing it outside of being sick, potentially being sick, or going into certain places like the hospital, I would rather wear one that actually allows breathing. I hate those cloth masks like the devil.

My area is making it a bylaw to wear face masks in public areas. This is taking effect tomorrow apparently.

Guess I need to go and get some more as I only have I think 5 atm...

There is one fact , most people don't know about face mask.
The use of face mask , is not just to protect you alone , but also your neighbour , if you have the virus the neighbour is protected when you use it , and when your neighbour has it , you are protected as well.
I guess we have to manage and adapt to use if face masks .

The thing is, no matter what precautions are taken, public transport is a risk to everyone.
I don't think a mere mask can protect us completely and of course this is all just my personal opinion.

Everyone should stay put unless it's an emergency travel. I have been working from home for almost 3.5 months now and I don't plan to, return to my office for another 3 months or so. The only downside is, there is always too much work these days. People believe working from home is a sign to give more work to the workers and that's just awful :(

Mississippi will make it mandatory in several counties starting this upcoming Monday to wear masks in shopping and large group settings but will not extend it to bars, restaurants, etc. My coworkers and I knew that it was only a matter of time before they went that route with the number of cases climbing locally.

I feel like it should be mandatory; but, the way a lot of the grocery stores are set up, you would have to also enforce the six feet spacing in the aisles because from what I've seen, a lot of people don't.

Do grocery stores enforce one way aisles in your area? In Canada our bigger chain stores have gone that route and while it may be confusing, it does help "steer the cattle" assuming people follow the rules.

They tried that with Walmart and some of the bigger chains; but, people rarely, if ever, followed the instructions and would constantly go down the wrong way because there was something in the aisle they wanted and they didn't want to walk all the way around and up another aisle to come back down to get it.

One supermarket near me has the one-way system implanted as well but most people don't bother following it. The staff don't seem to want to confront anyone about it either so nothing happens with that. Social distancing has been completely forgotten in supermarkets as well. The supermarkets used to control how many people could enter which helped but that has been completely stopped now.

It's one of those situations where damned if you do and damned if you don't. I don't blame the staff for not wanting to confront them about it. They don't want to take the chance of catching COVID from them; yet, I'm sure their managers are breathing down their necks to make sure they do their best to enforce it.
