Should Schools Ban Homework?

Should schools do away with homework? Why or why not?
I think it should be rationed like how Finland and other countries handles it.

Instead of hitting the books for hours they tends to only give only about an hour a night worth of homework outside of class with half hour during the school day during free time.

Homework to a certain degree is okay. But if the kids are spending all of their time outside of school doing homework, to the point that they work from the time that they get out of school until the time they go to bed, then I think that's a bit too much work. Some after school work is okay but not if it's excessive.

Exactly and I think any more than 1 to 2 hours is ridiculous per day, it's was not uncommon for me to even be spending 3 to 4+ on a day even!

Community college was normally a lot better with this and you actually had time for stuffs when I was attending! 3 to 4 classes normally only required only several hours a week if that.

I think it should be cut down a bit.

I remember being overwhelmed by homework as a kid. I think giving kids things to do at home is good, but make it interesting.

Giving kids sheets of paperwork and saying "Do this before Friday!" doesn't inspire them. They'd rather just take the detention.

I'm not sure about a total ban but it definitely needs to be reduced. Kids are spending more than 5-6 hours at school already, they need a break when they get home. The amount of homework some kids get nowadays is just crazy and gives them no time to relax their minds

YESSSS! Though if any homework is given, it should be reading or studying required, something that might not take too much class time to do. I always hated it when a teacher started off the class year saying you had to put in 8 hours outside of class to do well.

I remember doing after school class, Get on the bus at 7.50 am for 45mins bus drive to school than at school around 30mins before class starts. School fully ends at 3pm and then I do afterschool class till 4pm then since all buses are gone and left I had to get the school principal to drive me back home since the school principal lives the same way where I go, I get home near to 5Pm. On that plus side homework also, Yeo had Homework to do.

I think homework should be banned. Doing homework adds unnecessary stress to students, and then this can distract students from access to leisure time and community activities that also teach important life skills.

They should make them do homework at a study hall at school or in the class. However, though, the work should be difficult. I don't think being soft will help kids.

I think that the concept is good, homework teaches a different way of thinking, working, self-discipline, time management, etc. than schoolwork in class does.

I don't have any kids around so don't know how much they get, but agree it should be a limited and not excessive amount.

What would they replace it with? More time at school? If so, that's not really a net gain: it means students do the same amount of work, but miss out on all the independent study/discipline skills that they'd get from their homework.

I think the amount should be kept sensible; however, if they get rid of it without introducing anything to replace it, then they'll be much more limited in what they can learn.

I feel homework is essential. When I was in high school, homework consisted of "Read the section and answer the questions." Didn't take long to realize you could go to the questions first and find the answers without reading the whole thing.

I don't think so. Homework are useful, what they should really do is:
1) Do not overwhelm the students with tons of homework
2) Respect the holidays - maybe simply do optional or suggestional work, but never as a must.

Yes, homework is a waste of time in my opinion. Students may not get the right amount of support at home, and they may end up doing it wrong. Practicing doing something the wrong way is not good for learning. Also, they should have personal time to enjoy their childhood. When I was a young kid, I had so much homework that I feel like I didn't get to enjoy my childhood fully...
