Who should pay for the wedding?

Here's a nice little debate.

Let's say your little girl has grown up and is engaged to be married. Who should pay for her wedding? Traditionally, the parents of the bride pay for the wedding, but should that still hold true for today? Do daughters expect their parents to pay?

I think that both the bride and grown should split the cost of the wedding as not to put a financial burden on just one person to pay for the wedding as weddings are expensive.

I was always aware that it was tradition for the bride's parents to foot the bill for the wedding and I knew that had been a tradition for a long time.

Times change though and with times changing, traditions like this also need to change. Splitting the cost of the wedding between the two seems like a better option so that everyone feels included and it's less of a burden for those who feel they have to due to tradition.

I can only talk about what we did. We split the expenses and in my case I think my mother and I shared them.

But seriously, I'd say it should be split 50/50 between the groom and the wife. The wife's family can chip in and cover that 50%, and/or the groom's family can chip in and cover the groom's 50% as well. It shouldn't be all on one family.

In Nigeria, it is a culturally practice here that the man pays for everything. This is the standard and acceptable way

In some Asian countries, men should need to pay everything for the wedding. In my view, it is best to do it equally.

I think that depends on the mutual understanding and agreement of the couple. But here, in most cases, the bride and the groom split the expenses.
